I'm in the process of ordering a barrel for a rifle I going to put together. I made up my mind in caliber 7mm Remington mag. I will like the barrel to be the same contour as the Alaskan TI or a little heavy to help with the recoil. The barrel is going to be fluted. So I might go with the varmint sportier(sp). So my question is can someone tell me what contour is the rem Alaskan TI barrel and how is compared to the varmint sportier (weight). I will have some more question down the line. Rifle: rem 700 action stock: undecided. gunsmith: ??? Thanks in advance for all your help. Code Pink sucks SUPPORT THE TROOPS

Me? I'd opt for 280 Remington rather than 7mm Remington Magnum and a say 24" barrel. That way you will get less recoil but the same effective result as a 7mm Rem Mag in a 22" barrel. And can save that extra weight from the profile that adds nothing but weight and convert it to extra lentgth that adds velocity! As I assume that a steel barrel in the same profile as a Titanium barrel will really weigh some!

Yea, I thought about the 280 or 280AI, but the bolt face for the action that I have won't allow me to go that route. So I decide in the 7mm RM. they are pretty darn close. regards Code Pink sucks SUPPORT THE TROOPS

The factory Ti profile is the same as the Mountain Rifle contour. I think that the Varmint Sporter is the same as the stock Magnum sporter, just fluted. In between these two is the Standard (read non magnum) Sporter which I would go with, but without the flutes. Go to Lilja Barrels and he has a PDF of the factory contours with the measurements so you can compare them. Hope that helps. What are you looking for the gun to weigh? I went with a Shilen #4 for my 7mm mag and it weighs 3 lbs 12 oz before being cut down to 26". I went with an H&S stock and it should end up around 9 1/4 to 9 1/2 lbs with scope when done. The nice thing about the 7mm mag is you can get ammo almost anywhere on the planet you can hunt.

It's not fluted and the H&S stock is not the lightest stock that is offered by any means, about 2 1/2 lbs.

With a #3 24" barrel and a lighter stock, you would be there.

In the origional Ti the barrel was the mountain rifle contour. However the Alaskan ti is the fluted heavy mag contour.
