Not sure this is the right place for this, but it's a better fit than any of the other forums. I have an older Ruger 77 MK II 300 WM with tang safety which I am considering a new stock for. It is a hunter and the reason for stock replacement is abuse the original wooden stock has taken over the years. For these reason I am intending to go to a polymer type stock. I am curious as to any recommendations for a stock to use, I am currently looking at a Bell & Carlson or a HS Precision. Are these both good, and is there any reason other than cost to pick one over the other. Thanks for any advice/recommendations.

jcarr,
I cannot make a recommendation on the stock, but I did notice you referred to your rifle as a Mk II with a tang safety. The Mark II was not made with a tang safety, to the best of my knowledge. The Model 77 tang safety models are often referred to as MK I, but never had that official designation. The changes that were made to the Model 77 to make it a Mark II included the addition of the three position safety. If you are looking at a replacement stock, you will be looking for a Ruger 77 tang safety model, I beleive.
Good luck on your search.

I have used both and I like both. The H-S Pres. stock will have an aluminum insert. The Bell and Carlsen may not. If not, it will need to be pillar bedded. For a working field gun I like the B&C shape, it fits me. Both are quality stocks. Pick the one that fits....Tom

I suggest you take a look at Mark Basner's stock (Hi-Tech Specialties). I have one on my factory tang 35 Whelen and am more than pleased. It is hell for stout while be lighweight. It will require some finishing work unless you send you rifle off. Nothing a decent DIY'er couldn't handle.

The Bell and Carson fits me but I've always felt they were heavier than I wanted.

Th is my Hi-Tech on a MKX action total rifle weights just a touch over 7.5#. Don't know if you are looking for a drop in or finished. Mine was a blank and it does require work. I have never seen one if his finished stocks.

As usual just my $.02
