Is this a Tessier French walnut blank?

I have a piece of wood laying around somewhere that has "Tessier" as part of the stamp. I do not know if it was stamped in France or maybe by the importer, who I believe was Keith Stegall.

I have seen that stamp twice before and do not think it is Teyssier but undoubtably nice French wood anyway. The reason I say this is that all the Teyssier blanks I've seen have his name spelled out in the center. By the way, over the years their stamp changed as some are a perfect circle of about an 1 1/4" or so and others were an oval maybe 1 1/4" high by 1 3/4" wide. I've never found out whether they just used them interchangeably or whether one shape preceded another so if someone knows please post this.

Merry Christmas,

The Tessier logo was an oval stamp. burned into the blank...maybe measuring 2" x 1.25". Without that, it may be a fine blank, but not a Tessier blank

Can you gentlemen educate me on this. I know that Tessier wood is highly regarded, however, what was it that made the Tessier blanks so desirable?

I seem to recall that they had a proprietary drying process, is that correct? Or was it the sourcing of the wood itself?

Thanks for any insight.

I just got of the phone with a gentlemen that has traveled the world in search of fine stock wood. He's been to Turkey, UK,Spain, Italy. France..you name it. He's handled well over 200 Known Tessier blanks acquired in as late as the 60's.

All of them bore the oval stamp. He's also seen a number of fakes.

Tessier has that fine color, but density varies like any other.

He's somewhat disappointed in the Turkish suppliers. Most go for quantity rather than quality.

The blanks I have have are stamped:

ETS F. TEYSSIER Co
BRIVE
FRANCE

The whole is surrounded by a not quite oval border, part of the same stamping.

Did he have an opinion on the Armenian wood?

The mystery French blank of mine isn't anything terribly impressive, but it should make a nice rifle stock. It would be neat to know how old it is and who imported it though.
