Can anyone recommend a stripper for poly finish that will not soften the checkering diamonds?

I gather this may not be a wooden stock or is it? If not wood then any good stripper and care and caution to avoid the checkering, if wood then the checkering should not be affected "softened". If none wood then any stripper will "maybe" make a mess of the whole thing. More info. would be nice. --- John303.

Yeah, its walnut. Thought maybe to try to stay away from overly caustic stuff.
