I have a sako 75 synthetic in 300RUM. The barrel is supossed to be free floating , but when you shoulder it , the stock touches the barrel when you grasp the forend. In removing some material from the stock to solve this problem, is there such a thing as removing to much?? If not, i better get busy with a dremel tool. Thank's : Rick.

Here's the deal, If the stock is so flimsy that it requires sufficient material to be removed so as to cause a huge gap to prevent the barrel and stock from colliding, and you wish to have the barrel free floating, then get busy. Be sure to leave yourself something to hang on to...

Don't use a dremel tool. Make yourself a tool to scrape the material away. Much easier to control, and much more professional looking results than with a dremel tool.

Good luck,

Malm

Another consideration is potential interference from, or damage to, the front sling swivel base.

I hogged out an H-S synthetic stock to accomodate a very oversize barrel and I had to work around the internal hardware.
