I have a sako 75 synthetic in 300RUM. The barrel is supossed to be free floating , but when you shoulder it , the stock touches the barrel when you grasp the forend. In removing some material from the stock to solve this problem, is there such a thing as removing to much?? If not, i better get busy with a dremel tool. Thank's : Rick.

Another consideration is potential interference from, or damage to, the front sling swivel base. I hogged out an H-S synthetic stock to accomodate a very oversize barrel and I had to work around the internal hardware.
