Was wondering if anyone out there had a Savage 1899 / 99 carrier (or any other Sav 99 parts) lying around gathering dust? I have an early 1899 that needs a replacement carrier (rotor) to put it back in shooting condition. Also if you have a carrier but don't know what it is from I'd be interested in hearing from you as well.

Thanks for your help,
Jeff Pfeifer

I have a couple of carriers and some parts, but I don't know what caliber they are, I know they are not 308....Lots of luck, but I wouldn't want to be in your shoes on that one. I have been searching for a rotor (carrier) for a .308 M-99F for a year...none of them are marked you know.

Ray,
Thanks for the reply neighbor! (I live in Boise). Just so happens that I (well actually my wonderful wifee) has a minty 99F in .308 Win that we can pattern a carrier from. I have a .243 Win carrier (narrower neck millout in carrier than for a .308W) and a .250 Savage carrier. I took these along to the gun shows with me to identify them. The modern bottleneck cartridges just lay right into the millouts in the carrier on the newer carriers.

Actually there is an ebay auction with a late model (has tang safety parts) could be .308W on ebay at the moment - Item # 1037939161. It ends in 8 hours!

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1037939161&r=0&t=0&showTutorial=0&ed=1007172945&indexURL=0&rd=1

Do you ever make it out to any of the shows out this way? My neighbor has said that he has talked with you in the past about your guide services, so I'm thinking you do or have in the past. I do get out to Twin Falls / Jerome every so often to visit some friends out there.

The carriers (not spindle) can be measured for quick sorting, the longer (about 3.075 - not quite 3.1") being 1954 and later - what you are after. The shorter 2.9" is what I am after for the .30-30 and the likes. Like you, I believe that these were not marked but I don't believe that I have ever examined any off the spindle to see if there are any internal normally "hidden" markings. The .303 Sav and .30-30 I thought would be the same but the tab cutouts (on the right side of the action) are different and comparing with another .30-30 rifle so were the carriers. I don't own that rifle and now a friend does (it was in a shop for two years or so). I'll keep an eye open for one in .308 W for you (mine is a brass original) as that should be fairly easy to come by for me.

Any way that I can borrow your carriers for awhile to compare with other rifles to see what you have? Or let me know what you want for them. I have 5 different 99's - 4 of them early 1899A/B models and the 99F. If you have access to Amer Rifleman back issues, Jan 1973 has an article by Robert Snapp on "Converting the Savage 99" in which he talks about the carriers. Our local library had all the Am Rifleman issues and I suspect yours will too.

Anyone else have any other Savage 99 carriers or leads, for an early 1902 vintage .30-30 (2.9") or the mid to late 50's vintage 99F (3.075") for Ray Atkinson?

Thanks for your help!

RR,
Anyway to email these folks at K&E? I'll give a call as well.

manhasset,
I tried Poppert's when I first got this gun but no luck. However, always good to try back occasionally. I do like doing business with them.
Thanks all - JP

No email fax#1-306-244-4836 I checked on Fri when I was in Saskatoon he has one in 30-30 tagged as such from a rifle he parts out.
Ray
He received my rotor back from you. He checked his stock against one in a good 308 and doesn't have one. Sorry for the inconvienence.

Try parts4guns.com, he lists rotors. maybe savage maybe, brake rotors? I guess you tried GPC they list carrier ass. for the .22 Sav and the 303. How close would a 22hipower be? Thats about it on the resources, Good Luck, Bob.

RR,
I called Kerry at K&E this morning and talked with him. It sounds to be what I'm looking for so he's looking into getting me a price. Followed up with a FAX as he requested. Thanks for the heads-up!

Ray, I'll keep looking with my other sources for that 99F .308W rotor. As a SW dev, I'm on the web ALOT!
