S&W strain screw

I was shooting an S&W 44 model 29, I think. There were some misfires and the primers looked like they weren't being hit very hard. The rounds fired second time around.
Isn't this affected by the adjustment of the strain screw on the lower front of the frame?
If so, is there a proper/suggested method of adjusting this screw?
Could there be another reason that this gun had light firing pin strikes?
Thanks in advance.

You are correct. The strain screw adjusts the tension of the hammer spring on the M29. Rule of thumb, screw it in all the way, and then back it off 1/2 turn and see if it continues to misfire. If it does, advance it 1/4 of a turn. Continue advancing the screw until misfires cease. Smiler
