I'm sure some of you here have re-barreled a Savage 99, so what if any are the issues. I have a guy that wants to re-barrel to 22-250. The only thing I have done is bolt actions, never done a lever gun. By the way he is not concerned with any collector value, he just wants a shooter.

you need to contact 260remguy, he has a .22-250 that he had a barrel installed on and he has had several other calibers changed for 99s and he is a great guy to deal with

There are no real issue involved. Well, maybe a couple. Essentially, you just take measurements just as you would on a bolt action. You have only to make sure the breech bolt is properly in battery when you take you measurements.
The only additional things will be;
1. The extractor cut.
2. The cut for the bolt extension (at 12 o'clock on the breech of the barrel)
3. Locating the dovetail for the forend mounting boss.
If this is an older model it may have square threads (12 tpi I think) but newer ones are "V" threads.
I fit and chamber and polish the barrel then screw it up tight. I put a witness mark on the barrel and receiver. I mark the location for the extractor and extension and cut the dovetail for the forend boss. Then remove the barrel, make the appropriate cuts and there you have it. The barrel is then blued and re-installed. Regards, Bill.

In my understanding, it's not about the barrel work, it's all about the magazine.
