I would really like to put a pic/weaver type base on my pre-64 mod 70 in .270. What are some quality options that won't break the bank. Thank you

The standard Weaver are good quality bases for the M70's. I think the #'s are 66 & 67. If you want steel bases then a prefix "S" is the number.

Ultraman, there are several types out there, I just put a 2 piece set on mine but will be going to a one piece 30moa tapered base as soon as it gets here. Leupold's are very good and sturdy. What style of ring are you planning on using?

The Weaver steel Grand Slam bases are very nice. The standard bases, S46 front and S47 rear are reversible and fit many applications. However, I've found that the front extension base S402 works best on the long action rifles. Buy all three bases (S47,S46 and S402) and some low Leupold PRW rings and you should have it covered.

P.S. The above Weaver #'s assume your rifle has the same hole spacing for the front and year mounts.
