I have a new Remington 700, 300 Blackout. I bought Leupold scope mounts. The bases, no problem but the rings are another story. The front ring has a locking lug of sorts that has to be twisted once the base is in place. I did a You-Tube search and there is a good video from a Leupold guy demonstrating how to mount the thing on a generic rifle. Naturally, he had a special tool to twist the ring into place. One recommendation is to use a 1" dowel rod to twist the ring in place. I tried a bit smaller dowel but didn't like the feel of the thing.

I really don't like forcing things, especially gun things. Has anyone put Leupold rings on a rifle?

Deltam

Try reversing the ring 180 degrees. Always add a little dab of anti sieze grease, available in any automotive supply store. Use a wood dowell or any substitute that is 1 inch in diameter. I use an 18 inch piece of 1 inch aluminum which helps me to line the axis up with the bore accurately.

More than I can count.

First.....don't use the scope

Wooden broom handle works but I'm assuming since you don't have a turn in tool you probably don't know how to line up the front with the rear.....or lapp

More youtube stuff

It needs to be tight so there is no movement with recoil. Put a little grease on the dovetail and turn it back and forth in the base (with a proper lever) a few times until it turns a little easier.

Best to only rotate it once. The more you rotate it the less actual contact you have between the ring and base.

Well I "bit the bullet" Roll Eyes so to speak, and went by the hardware store and bought a 1 inch wood dowel rod. It was soft wood instead of hardwood but worked out OK. Basic physics I guess but a little bit of leverage goes a long way. I had 4 feet of dowel rod so I cut about 16" off, mounted it in the front ring and it twisted hard but reasonable. Just goes to show what the proper tool will do Roll Eyes . I used another length of the dowel rod to line up the front and back rings. The You tube video was a life saver. I have a new issue with this rifle but will start a new thread since it is unrelated to the scope.
