Gentlemen,

I am acquiring a Remington Model 30-S and would like to know what is the correct, period receiver sight for this rifle? Any photos of examples would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

The most commonly-desired sight is the (prewar) Lyman 48R, made specifically for the Remington M30. It's almost identical to the 48M (Mauser) and very similar to the 48S and 48C (Springfield 1903 and 1922).

These sights were made in several configurations over the years and the prewar 'full block' styles are the most desirable. The postwar 'half block' style is OK but doesn't have the prewar sights' charisma and also the postwar knob shapes are not nearly as good-looking as the prewar ones.

Here's a pic (I hope) of a prewar full block 48M.

HTH, regards, Joe

do an eBay search, like "gun parts sights", maybe "sights Lyman 48R", "sights Remiungton 30", etc.

You'll find one, the first one won't be the only one, bid carefully...

Thank you for the hint. I should be able to find one in the next couple of months. I hate the waiting though.

I'll give them a ring in the morning.
