A friend recently showed me a rifle he had in 30-06. It was a Winchester push feed type action. I automaticly assumed it was a model 70. Upon closer inspection I discovered it was a model 670. Being a Remington guy (Thus not knowing my butt from my elbo about Winchester) I have a few questions. 1. What is the difference between these two models ? 2. Why would Winchester make two different models of bolt action push feed rifles to compete with each other ? (This rifle was purchased new sometime in the 1970's ie. post 1964) 3. What is a model 670 worth compared to a model 70 ? J.W.

The 670 was cheaper due to a blind magazine.Rifle could only be unloaded by working rounds through action. There were cosmetic differences too but mainly an economy version of 70.

Since you are a Remington man think of the Model 70 as the Rem 700 BDL and the Model 670 as the Remington Sportsman 78 Mike

You guys are right on the money.First centerfire I owned was a 670 in 30-06. I think of it the forerunner to the Ranger series."no frills Model 70".The comparison to a Sportsman 78 is a good one. I had a Sportsman 78 in 243 also.
