My father who is a retired Federal Agent of some standing, told me about his perfect rifle last night.

Dad's 65, and has some back, knee, and hip problems. He passed on his perfect rifle and I thought I would share it here.

It will shoot a 300 grain bullet at 3500 FPS.
The bullet will be solid copper and have a BC of greater than 600.

It will weigh under 6 pounds, and have a rust free finish, and a synthetic stock. It will also get lighter as the day progresses.

It will not kick, recoil will be somehow mitigated, but there will be no increase in noise.

It will shoot one inch groups at 500 yards, and drop no more than 4 inches at 500 yards with a 200 yard zero.

It will have a Jewell 2 pound trigger, the safety will be a decoker, and the scope mounts will be mounted directly to the action not screwed down with flimsy nuts and bolts like a M700 or M70, a good example of this would be similar to the Ruger and CZ.

Anyone else want one if I can find it?

He must have bumped his head as he was falling off to sleep. Are former federal agents supposed to even be talking in their sleep??? Big Grin

The criteria for the perfect gun establish the fact that any one of them is a compromise, and is why individually we have so many of them. What is the perfect mountain rifle isn't the perfect woods rifle, and neither would make a good varmiter; and we haven't even talked about Africa!

Then on the other hand, we'd only have one 30-06 or 22-250 or 270 or 375HH, but what fun would that be? (Even though we could probably shoot it!) Kudude
