Stock Blank
Is a stock blank 2.25" wide enough for a big bore british style stock with with egg shape cheek piece?
Or should it be 2.5" wide?

What would be the reasons be that it would ok for one stock maker and not enough for another?

I will want a bit of cast off. So Iguess that would use up a little bit of width.

I learned that 2.25 is okay for that type of stock, but 2.5 doesnt hurt. The 2.25 will work for the mainstream duplicators.

The reason I asked is Chiron has a blank I thought was nice.

And then I noticed it was 2.25" thick instead of 2.5 like most of their blanks.

Figures.

If its gonna be tight dont want to struggle with it. I want to use it for a very classic British style rifle.

Not that I would actually be diong the work.

The best thing to do is just ask the person doing it what they require for thickness and then shop from there.

I was lookiing for the other one about thickness, but they deleted it. Just stirring the pot a little. stir

I also wanted Allen to know whay he wasn't getting too many responses. These thickness threads usually go south quick!

I'll just get a 2.5" and not fight it with a 2.25" blank.

I never thought stock blank thickness would get things stirred up. Big Grin

I know a lot of things "can" be done. Like a .416 Rigby on a standard length mauser. I don't want to make life difficult for myself.

From the sound of it a 2.5" thick blank will give more room to work with.

If it was a killer deal on a special pice of wood it might be worth it. But not for a nice peice of at an ok price. Especially since 2.5"
blanks are to be had.

I had no idea what was really preferred.
