Before I write my question, please do not say a Winchester Improvement is a CZ or Ruger or any of that. I have Winchesters and trying to work on them. That said. I want to improve my actions (Model 70 CRF)such as lapping them. Is that a hard process and what tools does it take???? I would like to also smooth out the safety engagement, is there a way to do this. Is it best to send off to a gunsmith or do it at home??? Thanks for the help. Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent. DRSS .470 & .500

you can hand lap the action using the right compounds and just spend a few hours at home hand running the bolt.....cycle it a few thousand times and it's somewhat improved. I'll let someone else explain the compounds as I have them but was given them and have no clue what they are. I posted here just to say.....the best thing you can do to improve your Winchester M-70 is to give it a good glass bedding job. It's well worth the effort and you can do it yourself too. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I'd leave the trigger/safety work to a metalsmith who is well versed in the operation of the M70. Mark Penrod comes to mind as one that can do this work.
