Butter knife bolt handles are attractive but not great for using. I've actually hurt my hand in operating them. Big balls may be ugly but they function well and on a rifle too. roger

It isn't that the handle interferes, it has to do with the ergonomics of using a bolt handle that is flat, rather than round. With a ball on the end of the bolt handle your hand can comfortably rotate around the ball. With the flat handle you either have to keep it gripped by the flats, requiring awkward hand position or raising the arm higher than usual, OR let your hand rotate and deal with the thin side sections of the handle. Luckily for me I hate the way they look so dont' even have to debate about getting one. Red

Quote: They were originally concieved as something that would slide easily in and out of a scabbard and thus their functional usefulness does exist. A well designed one will hug the stock tightly and curve slightly outward on the end with some sort of metal checkering or grooves to aide in "getting a grip". I use mine between the thumb and index finger, it just takes a little getting used to and I like the classic look they give. Not something one would want for a DGR though. I cant see any reason why their use should conflict with any kind of sights.

The "Butterknife" handle would work fine with a "receiver sight" The sight is on the bridge, how could any bolt handle interfere?

Quote: Heh Heh..... Well, I like the looks....but I can certainly endorse everything you mentioned about the comfort level. I probably wouldn't do another. GV
