Picked up a very exciting rifle today. It a commercial FN 98 factory chamberd for the .257 Roberts. I can probably use the stock it came with,(not origional) temporarily. Some one cut it awfully short but a 1 inch pad will get it cloae enough to try out the rifle anyway. I have been looking at a few stocks on line and as much as I might like to I simply can not afford a Chik Worthing or anything by the top stock makers. But I thought I might order a turned and formed blank from all bieson or somone, and in conjunction with a local pro, be able to get a real prety stock on it. I will not try bedding shaping or checkering, but I can sand ! Any body out there have any other Ideas for a guy with rich mans tastes on a truck drivers Budget ? I don't want to go synthetick unless I just have to. By ther way I am in Portland Oregon thanks...tj3006 freedom1st

Thomas, I would use it as it is for now and keep looking for an original stock in better shape. A few take-off FN stocks come available now and then and I'd keep a hundred or two aside to be ready to buy one that will restore the rifle to a more original condition. Getting a Biesen or other pantographed blank turned into a completed rifle is still a considerable amount of work. If you aren't doing most of it yourself getting it done right is probably going to cost you more than the rifle did and far more than buying a takeoff stock.......................DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

I agree with DJ. There are some take off stocks that are worth the money. Even if they don't fit exactly, they can be full length bedded and only you will know. If anyone else notices just tell them you full length bedded the rifle for accuracy. square shooter
