hey guys, I can get themodel number off of this tomorrow if I need to. My uncle has a shotgun that was my grandfathers. It's a savage with an aluminum action that has embossed game scene (IIRC) on one side. Anyways, stock is short (he was short) so was thinking about digging it out and repadding it for my brother to try out. My question is this, my uncle says it's okay but only for light loads, I'm wondering if anybody here has an idea of what is ok and what isn't? Light target only, dove? Thanks guys (Like I said, I can get model number tomorrow, my grandfather passed away about 31 years ago so it's older than that) Red

Without the model number, it's sort of like asking how long is the piece of string you have in your pocket. Given the model number, it then becomes a question of inspecting the individual firearm for wear, damage, and previous "repairs". Mike Ryan - Gunsmith

It's a 745, game scenes on both sides, aluminum (color and my uncle told me, weight makes me think so too but I didn't magnet test). looks like in pretty good shape other than the stock being short, which is interesting as the barrel must be 30" with the lyman cutts choke on it (fixed choke it looks like). What kind of stuff can it be used for? target and light game loads safe? Red

I have one. Since I'm not into shotgunning much, its my all around shotgun. Carries like a dream and I shoot the "humpback" better than any other design. Handles 2 3/4 no 4s well for what little turkey hunting I do. Love shooting clays with it although it has the fixed full choke. Its just a neat old shotgun that I enjoy. Not used a lot, but dependable when I do. Society of Intolerant Old Men. Rifle Slut Division.
