Centurion P14

I'm really straining the old noggin here but I remember the Centurion P-14s coming out in the early 90s. I think they were sold by Century Arms. They were all over Shotgun News for a while back then. You could get 7 Mag or 300 Win. I don't remember any standard calibers. I think the deal was they got a bunch of P-14 303 actions which were easy to convert to .532 rimless.

Hmm,,Ok thanks triggertate. I guess they recontured the rear bridge , T&D them , barreled ,etc.

Harry nailed it.. but i've seen more of the salvaged actions than whole rifles.. The reason being, at least as far as I have been able to determine, is that century was, hmmmm, generous,,,, with headspace.

BUT .. if you can find one whole, with a stock, these are good places to start a sporter from...

iirc, decent job on the ears, some were offered with good triggers, and the barrels all needed to be setback and rechambered

They basically took a $20 action and turned it into a $70 rifle. A stripped action would probably bring more than a whole rifle, LOL.

Back at the same time you could buy a "Drill Rifle" which was the P-14 with the chamber drilled and a pin welded through it cheap-cheap. I think those were the origins of the Centurion. It was a hoot to drift out the pin and shoot 303 Brit ammo in those chambers! They spit fire 3 feet on either side. (With a LOOONG string on the trigger, of course!)

Interesting thread going here, I've got one that I picked up cheap and initially thought it was a P-14 as well considering the bolt face situation. But upon removing the rings and bases from the action it identified itself as a model 1917 fromm Remington. Like I said considering the bolt face situation this surprised me a little.

Haven't tried to fire mine yet, it's supposedly chambered for 7mm Rem. Mag., haven't even mounted a scope on it yet. Not really pleased to hear that there's a good chance that the headspace could be for crap. I've just cleaned up a couple of factory rifles for that problem.

Part of the reason I've not taken the time to even throw a scope on mine is that it seems to feed like CRAP and quite frankly I don't like the cock on close feature of the action. Like I said I got it CHEAP, just don't know what to do with it now that I've got it. It'll come to me some day.

My dad really likes his in 7mm Rem Mag. It shoots really well with 160gr accubonds at 2800fps. Not exactly screaming for a 7mm mag but works well. I have a P17 that has been rebarreled to 9.3x62. Great rifle. If it doesn't shoot good I wouldn't think twice about getting it rebarreled into 338 win or 358 norma mag. Would be a great action for it.

There are no flies on either the P-14 or P-17 actions for solid hunting rifles. Just ask the Aussies. I'm sure some of the Centurions ended up as good rifles. It was more a matter of luck of the draw rather than quality control, unfortunately.

As long as it was headpsaced, it doesn't matter that it was MADE with the 14 or 17 bolt.
