My project is an 03 Springfield sporter using a bushed original Win 95 barrel in 405 Win. I stocked it in an old N.O.S bishop stock and it shoots very well with Hornady 300 gr. bullets. I opened the feed rails using D. Wiebe's booklet as a reference and it feeds slicker than snot on a glass doorknob. It will hold four down and as long as I load it carefully so that the rims don't overlap, feeding and ejection is great. What I seem to recall is that some bolt rifles with staggered box magazines sometimes used an angled spacer in the back of the mags to insure that when loading that the rims would align properly to feed correctly. The British P14 used an angled back and guide ribs to convert the rifle from rimless to rimmed .303 Brit. The follower was modified too to prevent the rim from catching on the rear and an angled ramp at the front to guide the last round up. Basically, they created an angled box inside a square box. The guide ribs were also angled with one just in front of the rim to force the rounds back as they were loaded. The other rib is forward to keep the rounds pointed straight forward. The mag boxes are pretty cheap and plentiful. You could get one and study it.

I'll send you one. Realize that the angled ends of this box take up a lot of room which you do not have with your cartridge/action combo. Remember that the P14 was designed for the 276 Enfield, and is way too long for a 303, so they had a lot of extra room fore and aft to install this box. You have lived a sheltered life. | |||

a little off topic, but my o3a3 is a.458 x 2 american.... it had feeding issued.. too much of the feed rails had been removed... so i fitted a winchester push-feed magazine box, and floorplate, blocked off the front to make it feed from the rear,,, cut the follower to fit said mag box... and it feeds good.. not sure which mag box i started with, i thing it was marked with an "h".. go big or go home ........
