Whats involved in changing a 22-250 rem to a 22-250 Ackley Improved? Is it just as simple as reaming the barrel, or do you need buy a new barrel chambered for the AI round?

I have found that many factory barrels tend to be a little loose in there headspace. While you can in theory just rechamber for the Improved cartridge, I set the barrel back one thread and then rechamber with minimum headspace.

this would be with a Savage, if that makes any difference.

4H, It would not matter what action you have, the requirements are the same... With regards to the Savage varieties with the barrel nut, You will still need to screw the barrel in until you have achieved the .004 crush. Good luck, Malm [ 06-21-2003, 04:55: Message edited by: G.Malmborg ]

thanks! What is the going price to have this job done? I assume its a fairly common job.

For instance, I charge about $85 for Mausers, Rugers, Brownings and Weatherby's, and $120 for Remingtons because of their bolt nose recess. Breech configurations like the pre-64 Winchester, Springfields and 1917 Enfields are more because of the added machine work. Malm
