I just bought an 09 argentine bottom metal over the web and find that there is a serial # stamped on the guard just behind the front action screw and in front of the floor plate hinge.

Is this as issued - how does one get rid of it?

To fix yours you can have it tig welded. that's what I do. Weld, dress, polish.
