I want to take my small ring Brno mauser apart, the one with the shotgun style trigger guard bow. I need to get at the rear action screw which is under the trigger guard bow. I have removed the wood screw that goes through the bow into the grip. Is the bow supposed to lift out? I can't seem to move it, don't want to exert too much pressure.

Thanks, Hart

Apply upward force to the guard and then tap the back of the guard bow with a small plastic hammer or screwdriver handle. It's identical to shotguns using the same parts.

Thanks, Jack. Just went to the shop and got it off. I can see if one is not careful you could chip the wood at the back of the bow.

Thanks again, Hart.

Jack, I hope you will read this. After taking the trigger guard bow off like you said and coming in and writing my last post, I went back out to take the rifle apart. I was sure surprised when I took off the bottom metal and found that the front guard screw had a metal pillar that stayed in the stock. It looks just like the normal mauser pillar that is part of font of the bottom metal. Only on this rifle it is a separate piece and seems to be tightly fitted into the stock. The back guard screw does not have a metal sleeve (pillar). Did this rifle originaly come with a metal sleeve? I do not think this rifle has the original stock, it looks like one of those Bishop monte carlo with cheek piece stocks that were avaiable years ago. Nicely checkered and bedded, no glass though. Possibley factory inletted for this action. Also should mention that the rifle has the Brno set triggers.

Thanks, Hart

The bottom metal on the model 21/22 Brnos was a combination of flat bar stock and formed sheet metal. (Another example of a cheapened Mauser, but the action is SO nice I'll forgive them.)

There's supposed to be a stock spacer front and rear, but if the stock is carefully bedding you don't need them......they make the job much easier, though.

Thanks Jack
The bedding seems to be good. After putting the action back into the stock and tightening the front guard screw, slowly tightening the rear guard screw, I could not feel the tang being pulled any further into the wood. There never was a sleeve in this stock as there is just enough clearance for the screw.
I am going to see how it shoots before I decide if it needs a rear sleeve. If I do go for the sleeve I am going to have to somehow figure out the length of the sleeve so that it will not cause any stress on the action when installed.

Thanks again, Hart
