I just installed a Timney trigger on my 35 Whelen. The factory trigger broke at 6.5 lbs. Felt like 30! When I installed the Timney, I filed down the trigger to clear the safety as instructed, replaced the seer, and spring. I didn't make ANY adjustments at all. Just installed it as it came from the factory. The trigger breaks perfectly at 2 lbs.

With the gun unloaded, cocked, and the safety off. I dropped it several times (controlled) on the recoil pad to see if it would fire. I got fairly aggressive and it never let go. The gun will not fire with the safety in the middle position either.

Now the question for the experts. Is everything ready to go or do I need to make any tuning adjustments? The darn thing was far more simple than I expected.

Did you try to have a smith smooth out your factory trigger or did you go straight to the Timney? I am unsure which way to go with my rifle.

LongBob, I did it just as you described about 1000 rounds ago on my .308 Win. Seems to have worked for me, but I admit it was almost too easy.

I went straight to the Timney. I agree with Crowrifle. It was almost too easy. That is what worried me. Although, I read the intructions and it seems to be installed correctly.

You did the installation correctly. If it survives 6 drop tests and holds on safety, followed by a succesful range session I consider it a job well done!-Rob

Thanks Rob. I favor Winchesters more than anything. But I do like Rugers somewhat. Really, the only thing that I detest (I thought) about the Rugers was the trigger. I've heard all kinds of horror stories about the trigger being stiff to sealed. Now that I see how they work, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Ruger. Heck, I almost wish I had another MK II so I could replace another trigger! I do have an older 220 Swift with a tang safety. The trigger isn't so swift. I wonder if it would turn out to be as simple an operation.

The Whelen is now going to Africa with me in September as my plains game gun. It ought to thump them just fine with the Federal 225 gr. TBBC's.
