I have a 308 7600. Is it cost effective or practical to rebore this barrl to 35cal? I would like to shorten the barrel to 16.5"-17"and rebore then rechamber to 358 win. Any ideas or suggestions.

Another way to skin that cat is try to find a 760 in 35 remington then rechamber. That's what I did. Good luck. Paul.

VIP & Gatogordo, both are good ideas, keep the 308 and add a 358 or 35 whelen either way will work. Duh I must have been on brain freeze for a moment. Glad you guys kept me straight.

Reboring is a particularly good & cost effective option on a valuable barrel like an oct/rd/ribbed barrel on a pre-war Mauser that has been shot out or corroded, as long as there is enough meat. Some guys also do it on oddball double rifles, or those with bad barrels.

It is if you can't ge what you want another way that is less expensive and want to stay with the original barrel contour/markings except caliber. I have had over a dozen barrels rebored by Cliff LaBounty of Maple Falls, WA. Cliff sold all his stuff to Clearwater Reboring in Colville, WA. I hear nothing but good stuff about them. The only issues I had with reboring were when reboring a 1894 or 1892 Winchesters. The barrel metal has intemittent hard/soft spots and the cutters didn't work as well. Cliff was real magician with reboring and I'll bet the guys that went to Clearwater as just as magical.
