It all depends.

What type of car and how do you drive it?

High end sports car that you are going to keep forever... then go Mobil 1

Family minivan that gets turned in within a few years... cheapest stuff you can find

With normal driving and changing the oil at moderate intervals (say 5000 miles) any dino oil will work just fine.

I've driven high performance cars almost all my adult life (I'm 73) and have found that what the manufacturer reccomends is probably the best. The main thing is to change often and keep a clean filter in. That goes for ANY vehicle on the road. I know the interval iis now reccomended as 5000 miles but I still like 3000 miles between changes here in the Southwest. It's pretty hot and dusty here in the desert.

Castrol brand.

Good additives and good performance from an oil. Has not let me down in 201,000 miles.

I use Castrol and Mobil 1. FWIW, Mercedes-Benz recommend the use of Mobil 1 in all of their vehicles.
