I have a 30-06 and a 300 win mag. Is one easier than the other to convert to a 404?

Thanks

Magazine boxes are the same. Both will need box work, bolt stop and ejector as well. The 300mag will need it's bolt face opened less than the 30-06.

As usual just my $.02

I re-barreled a Post-64 push feed Model 70 in .300 WINMAG to .404 and it worked great except for the feeding. I sent it to Dennis Olson in Plains, MT and he made it feed slicker than snot on a brass door knob. Before he worked on it, he told me he wouldn't work on a PF Model 70 and I asked what I could do and he told me he would convert to CRF. I let him do it more to see the result and was wonderfully surprised at the outcome. Very pleased indeed!
By the way, he replaced the original mag box with a "window" type I think he got from Brownells.

If you search you can find a used Model 70 in one the RUM cartridges. That would be a straight rebarrel job without the extra hassel. You can sell the one you don't want to offset the cost.

How did he do the CRF converstion? Was the bolt replaced or did he modify the original bolt face like on the M70 Super Shadow models? Could you post a picture?

Would like to see that as well.

Jim - 404s are for Mausers... not Model 70s.

Check the Custom Rifle forum. JudgeG has Mike at Bijou Creek convert an M70 Classic in 300 RUM to 404J. Beautiful gun...take a look.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!!
