The number on the barrel is the serial number. The Husqvarna action itself may or may not have a number on it on the bottom of the recoil lug. You can have the same number stamped on the barrel if you wish. The action may be too hard to stamp.

I have always found the ATF to be very helpful and quick at responding to any question I had. I have had better luck emailing from the web site. I must admit that at first I was kinda leary of conmtacting them, as my FFL is required for my life's passion and I read som ehorror stories, but each and every dealing I have had with the ATF was psoitive. Speaking of serial numbers,,,, A gunsmith well-known on this site (no names mentioned) told me this little story: Apparently, the gunsmith had the pleasure of building or customizing a number of rifles for a Swedish customer. The customer requested that ALL his rifles be stamped (engraved, or otherwise properly marked) with the SAME serial number!!! So all the rifles went out the door with the same serial number.?.?. It is a long time ago since I hunted in Sweden last, but when I did, our hunting friends from "Ultima Thule" were allowed a maximum of 8 (eight) long guns.... Given that snippet of information, I can almost see where the "universal" serial number would fit in... Heard on the police station in Karlskrona: "Certainly Officer, I only have this rifle with THIS serial number"... - mike
