I picked up a prety cool 98 sporter today.
It's a 7X57 and to my eye looks like a custom rather than one of the big batch customs like a golden state arms.
I am wondering if it a Yougo a CZ or mabye a turk ? and when the maker is determind did that maker build 98s in 7X57 or is it likly a commercial barrel.
on the side of the action beetween the front ring and the thumb cut it is marked Boj.TEX.(the x might be an M or an n) 3ABOA-KPARYJEBAU.
There are similer markings on the same side reciever ring, but they are harder to make out.
also marked on the ring below the stock line is the letter C and some sort of crest with a crown sittin on what looks like the letter T.
Barrel is about 23 inches. It has a Dayton traister trigger marked Portland oregon. (did not no they were a portland product , Thats where i live)
This rifle was built by a competent smith, the action is glass bedded to a nice stock of either a light collerd walnut or maple with a dark for tip and rather large grip cap.
The stock has a rather oversized roll over cheek pice I can do without, and looks like a factory built stock like a fajen or somthing.
Any info would be aprecated. I'ts prety cool !
I will likly have the stock reshaped a little as the preverbial gouge from the cocking piece
is on top of the extra heavy comb.
I plan to shoot it soon, with the cheapo tasco 3X9 it came with , witch is in a 1 pc redfield base with redfield rings.
Is that trigger ok in your opinion ?
The stock would need a fair amount of inletting before I could fit a timney in it.
thanks...tj3006

I took 4 pictures of the rifle, but am having a hard time getting them to photo bucket.
I think it's a network problem. I will try again later.
S-40. thanks for the help. The markings got me thinking slovakia or slovia. I have a VZ-24 and did not think that was likly as they mark those prety plain...tj3006

I agree with S40. It sounds like a Yugo M24 still with its crillic stampings.

Ball's book on Mausers of the world shows the crown with the "T" underneath on small ring serbian rifles.
