Douglas barrels are very good. If you require even more, get one of their air-gaged barrels. The dimensions and tolerances are the same as the other "big name" makers. I have a few of their barrels on different rifles, and am completely happy with them.

I have a 06 with a varmint weight douglas air gage barrel on it and regularly shoot pop cans with it at 400 yards. 'They are a fine barrel.

Yes, Douglas builds a good barrel, and some of the most widely used and famous sporting rifles in history wear Douglas barrels; Jim Carmichel's David Miller Company custom .338 Win. Mag. being one of them. I had a .270 that was built on a G33/40 Mauser action with a light Douglas barrel that was a near-tackdriver and very forgiving.

The truth is, a good barrel is a good barrel, no matter who makes it. Proper action preparation, chambering, and installation is the other half of the barrel equation and just about as important, although the best barrel fitting in the world won't make a bad barrel shoot well.

I'll put it this way: Name a well-known custom barrel brand (Douglas, Hart, Lilja, Shilen, Pac Nor, Kreiger, etc.), and I'll guarantee you that there are scores of guys out there who own astoundingly accurate rifles (that they swear by) which wear barrels from any one of those companies, plus others. A great barrel is indeed a great barrel.

By the way, I swear by Krieger.........

Montana,

I have a Douglas air-gauged heavy sporter barrel on my .280 Rem silhouette rifle, and it shoots very well. A gunsmith friend prepared the Remington M721 action and also stocked the rifle (Macmillan synthetic stock) while he tutored me on how it is done.

At the same time "we" built a 6.5-'06 on a Rem M700 with a Shilen barrel. Again he did the work, and I watched. This rifle is a shooter too.

With that said my current order for a custom barrel is a Krieger.
