I have a Rem 700, 6mm, BDL, that I am setting up for my long range Prairie Dog gun.

I am going to replace the stock, so I am thinking about making it a single shot in the process

In fact, I load the bullets so long that they will not go into the magazing anyway, so it is being used as a single shot anyway.

So, my question is what all parts will I need for the conversion? I am going to order a Bench/Varmint stock from Richard's Micro Fit.

There are single shot followers made that you simply place in the magazine on top of the regular follower. The follower has a trough that aligns the cartridge with the chamber. This is the easiest method and are sold by Sinclair, Brownells, Midway, etc. Make sure you get the right one for short or long action.

If you go with a stock that doesn't have a mag well, I think there are gunsmith fit followers available that would bolt or glue to the stock or you could modify one of the insert types. I'm making one for my Savage 10FP that is going into a Palma stock and it will be from aluminum or steel but there is no reason you couldn't make it out of hardwood or plastic for that matter if you don't have the tools to work metal.

One of my long range rifles for 1000yd prone is a Remington 700 with a standard box mag and follower. I just lay the round on the follower or start it into the chamber and have never had a problem, but I guess the single shot followers make it even easier.

Check with Pacific Tool & Gauge. I am pretty sure they have what you desire. Good folks to do business with, also.

i did one a few years back, but i milled out a piece of steel to fit into the space on the bottom of the receiver and then silver soldered it in. a groove was cut on top of the place for a feeding ramp. stiffens the action up quite a bit.
