Yesturday we sawed two hard maple logs that I have keep on the log yard for two years. Sawed them 2 1/4 inches thick by 10 inches and by 14 inches wide. Both logs was spauled some 48 inches into the log. The other one I had to log off and has spaulding only on one end. After the 48 inches just pretty color with some figure. I put them on sticks for now, heres the deal if you make rifle stocks or would like to give it a try I will give you a blank all I ask if and when you start share the progress with all here. I can have this wood dryed in a dehumidifer klin also, but then we will have a slite cost for each blank probably a few bucks. Only problem is shipping them I sent some things to a friend in Canada here a while back and almost had to take a loan out because of the cost to mail. Not sure maybe no one is interested but thats the deal. Lets see if there is any interest

Can you post a couple pictures. What lengths have you cut to? Lots of width however it's grain flow and defect locations that determine stock layout. Not adverse to trying one of these however needs to be kiln dried to at least 9% mc. Need to see both sides of the blank to commit.

I shy away from kiln dried wood for gun stocks. At least traditionally, the best stock wood comes from air drying and looooong term stablizing. Most of us wait for a blank to be at least 5 years from it's cut date. Longer is better. Then you don't deal with the unknown internal stress warping what you just spent a month making.

I'd be interested in seeing what you have, if you show it before kiln drying. I've always wanted to build a long gun from a really nice stick of curly maple. It can set on my shelf for several years if need be.

Just my 2 cents FWIW

I haven't cut them to any length yet there 8 and 10 feet , and Trez there not curly but dose have a wave to the figure . There both but logs so the grain is pretty straight when you look at the side of the plank. But if my wife can't figure out how to post a picture ,next week I will have my sister do it for me. With just the few guys that are interested as far as I am concerened you can have a whole plank

Oh yeah, kiln dried wood is terrible for stocks!
Two prime examples! Two custom 404 Jeffery rifles! These have caused me nothing but sore eyes since I had them built some years ago! Eeker
