SpeerChucker30x378, Which "European made" Mauser 98 style action would you recommend under $400.00 to $500.00? I want nothing to do with China. I planning on a 240 Weatherby build for my bother as a birthday gift.

Not just because I like annoying Leeper, but I actually lean toward the commercial HVAs. But the FNs are fine and I certainly have nothing against the Chinese ones either. I always shake my head when some guy comes in and wants to spend thousands of dollars on a military action though. They are usually a lot more work (which is good for me) but the quality of the steel used and the primitive heat treatment of the day is very sketchy. I'm really not a Mauser fan and while I have owned a few, I do keep a paper bag in my shooting box in case I have to go to the range. ADD NOTE: We can buy good commercial 98s here for about $230 USD and HVA 1600 Mausers for about $350 USD so there is sort of a glut of them. They just aren't that special to us. https://www.tradeexcanada.com/produits/95 When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years! Rod Henrickson

SpeerChucker30x378, as you should know, Husqvarna m98 actions are mostly made by FN, both with or without thumb cut. First action which Husqvarna made by themselves in their factory is m1640 which isn´t any real m98 action. Here is good place to check it: http://www.skydevaaben.com/allhvamodels/info.xml

Yup, you are correct, all of the 1600 series are made in Sweden and it isn't a true 98 clone. The 98s aren't the same quality as the Swedish made 1600 guns. The 1600s do have their downfalls too. The chintzy aluminum lower is prone to breaking and it's hard to get replacement parts. In the ones with the steel lowers the hairpin flat spring that holds the floor plate is a joke and loves to break. They are also almost impossible to get replacements for. One can use some of the parts that are available for the Antonio Zoli clone. But no one is importing the Zoli into Canada because they are so roughly made. They are more crudely made than the Chinese 98s. I convert the hairspring type to steel latches like the Weatherby Vanguard catch. When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years! Rod Henrickson
