flacoNever the Twain Should Meet?
Opinions vary.
Some reputable sources claim it's better to leave a small gap between the receiver and the bottom metal when inletting a 98 Mauser, others say the two pieces should meet.
Presuming a fairly substantial bedding job, which will result in the more accurate rifle?

RogerRI have always been taught to leave enough gap so that the action can continue to be drawn up tight even with some wood shrinkage. If you bed it with no gap, and there is even the smallest amount of wood shrinkage, when you re torque the screws you will have a loose action and very poor accuracy. There may be other reasons.
