I have a customer that brought me a Springfield 03 (not an A3 or A4) that has been sporterized. He did not have the work done but bought it this way. He is getting old and cannot see the sights anymore and wants me to mount a scope on it, if possible.

Here is the problem, someone has turned down the receiver ring so it is no longer level with the rear of the action.

I would think it needs to be a 2 piece bases because it will be easier to build the shims for the front.

I am having an issue locating the correct scope bases. I don't care if they rails, Weaver, or Luepold style, rings are the easy part. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might the correct bases or have a set that you might want to sell me at a fair price?

I find all kids of them for the A3 and A4 but those will not work for this application.

The receiver ring is currently 100 thousandths lower than the rear of the action where the rear mount would go.

Thanks for any help

Glad you solved it, but here is some info for others: The 1903 reciver ring is so thin that it would be impossible to remove .1 inch of material from it.
1.040 barrel shank OD, and receiver ring OD of 1.3. You do the math. (.130)
I always hope I get them with the original barrel intact and it is in a cheap Fajen stock; they are worth ten times more if restored back to original configuration.

Lets say a 03 semi-sporter worth restoring is worth 200.00.

I have 4 originals that I well sell you for 10 times that just a measly 2000.00 each.

The description is confusing. All 03's and A3's have a ring lower than the bridge, and was never on the same plane. The bridge is humped up to clear the safety lug on the bolt body. There is no room to reduce the ring diameter much at all. The 03 is basically the same ring diameter as most if not all small ring Mausers. Can you post some pictures?

I would normally have my gunsmith cut custom bases to old Redfield rings, would that work for you?? Ventage scopes, Montana can probably furnish rings and bases for the original Military 03. and sniper rifles

KD; I explained why the OP's assertion that his 03 had the ring ground down lower than the bridge, "no longer level" is impossible; it already is lower and there is no steel either in the ring or bridge, to alter either one.
I think he has a standard 03.

You are correct and I was looking at the wrong information when I researching it. That is one of reasons how I solved my own problem. It helps if you look at right information in the first place. I jumped the gun posting before finishing my research on what I needed. Thank you however for correcting me. And yes it is a standard 03.
