Replacement rifle stocks

Been talking over on one of the other forums about the poor shooting 11/111 Savage and the really flimsy stock in 7mm-08.

Could not fig out what was wrong with the rifle. Would not pattern with three different factory plus the bedding screws kept coming loose even after a dose of lock tight.

Hopefully Savage will repair this turkey to the usual under an inch shooting rifle that most savages are.

Been a lot of years since I have done much gun work. I rebuilt two rifles in 82/83 on Chet Brown fiberglass stocks.

Rambling aside who make a good inexpensive stock for this short action rifle.

Not sure if I want wood or synthetic. Though I did love synthetic till I grabbed this flimsy stock. Are a lot of the new stocks like this are there some good solid feeling solid stocks out there?

Thanks,

Jim

Boys makes the best cheapest stock on the market. No plastic. Laminated birch in several colors. Any of their styles will work better than any of the plastic ones.

Looked at the site.

Little confusing with that many stocks. Any idea what the correct options are in the

Model 11 with the accutrigger in right hand short action M11 Rem Trophy 7mm-08. or 11 TH XP 7mm 08

Thanks, Jim

A little pricier, but I put Bell and Carlson stocks on a few Savages and have been very happy with them.

From what I get from the different posts is the action of the Savage is still as a rule very accurate/ Except for mine Frowner BUT the plastic stock in most people's opinion is a Flimsy POS for the most part.

There was some suggestions to go out and get a laminated wood stock and this would be better than a good plastic one even if the plastic stock was stiffer?

At the price of 180$ this week for the Savage Axis XP rifles plus Bushnell scope are you better buying this cheap rifle and buy a new Boyd's stock and throw the stock and scope in the junk bin?

Where my Trophy Hunter model 11/111 was 450$ with Nikon scope and the difference is the accutriger and 200$+ difference is

there that much difference in the Axis trigger vs the accutriger.

I know that I like the Axis bedding screws set up better than the T Hunter and the bolt release covering the middle screw.

Hard to pass on a spare at 180$ plus a stock if you get a good shooting little rifle.

Worse thing I ever did was get rid of a Remington Mohawk rifle in 6 mm. Ugly stock but they were tack drivers.

Can't beat a deal like that, for a bottom end rifle that actually will shoot well.. Just look like crap.
As I said, a laminated stock from Boyds is the best cheap way to go, and gives up nothing to a $600 hand laid fiberglass one. I often buy rifles and throw everything away but the receiver and bolt, so don't be afraid of doing that.
Always possible you got a lemon; easy to fix with some troubleshooting, and money. Or for way less than the price of a new stock and barrel, get that $200 Axis.
Give, throw, or sell, your old one.
I know nothing about the triggers.
