Gentlemen,
I am contemplating building a .300 H&H custom. Right now the only action I have in reserve is a Winchester Classic M70 chambered in .338 WM. How much work would need to be done on the action to make it suitable for the longer cartridge? Thanks!

It depends on how far you want to go. I just had similar work done. I opened up the magazine box on a 300 Win Mag to alow it to feed the H&H length rounds. Gary Stiles did the work for me and had no trouble removing the spacer in the factory magazine box, and then adjusting the bolt stop and extractor. Might be easier to buy one of the aftermarket magazine boxes to save some work.

The only part that I did not ask Gary to do was to machine the rear bridge of the action like the factory does on the longer cases. They do it to allow better cartridge ejection. I have not had any problems with my rifle but to be honest I have not done much with it yet.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!!
