You're going to have to drill and tap the barrel to mount the scout base for the Remington 700. I'm awful leary about "bolt on" bases since just a slightest contour change can throw the whole thing off. Anyway, the scout base for the Remington 700, should attach to the barrel only. It should never bridge the barrel/receiver junction. The base uses the rear sight screw holes in the barrel for one end and you will have to drill and tap at least one more hole into the barrel to anchor the other end. There are no special tricks to drilling and tapping that hole. Just be sure the hole is centered, square and doesn't enter the bore. Other than that, it should be a fairly straight forward job. If, on the other hand you've never drilled and tapped a barrel before, I wouldn't pick this as my first job without lots and lots of practice. | |||
