I have a Win Mod 70 .270 that has recently been accurized and teflon coated. I also have a fairly nice bastogne blank that I want to put on it. Right now the rifle has an HS Precision stock, but like others, I REALLY prefer my rifles to have wood stocks! Sooooo, anyone who has built a rifle with one of the Acrabond laminates or who owns one, PLEASE tell me your opinion of these stocks! It seems to me to be the best of both worlds but I would like some input before I start shelling out the $100 or so to have my blank laminated. Thanks!

Good Hunting,

I've seen bits and pieces where these are mentioned--surely someone here owns one or has made a stock from one! [Frown]

Okay, The secret is out. This is my absolute favorite choice of stocking a rifle. I sold all my plastic stocks and have retrofitted everything to the acrabond laminate with the exception of my TRG-S as until recently the bottom metal did not exist. There is a superb lamintated blank at their shop with my name on it and it's labled "M1999 Short Action".

They are light, strong and gorgeous. The patented process assurew no warpage. Look at the article in Rifle Magazine just out.

If you like the looks of wood and the reliability of composite, don't waste another moment. Do it!

ACRecurve,

If you don't already have it, here's a link to Acrabond's web site.

I purchased one at his shop in Sept. and all I can say is you have to see it to believe it. The laminates are verticle and the outsides of the stock look like normal figured walnut. You have to look closely to see the lamination. I would most definitely recommend Mel Smart and his stocks.

I will go along with sambubba. I have had six different stock from Mel Smart, Acrabond Laminates and I would highly recommend his stocks.

Thanks guys! I guess I just needed a bit of reassurance before I allowed a nice piece of wood to be laminated. I appreciate your comments. I'm gonna go for it! [Smile]

If you mean Mannlichter style stocks, the answer is yes.
