With that tool I measure if a chamber (pistol cal .40 S&W or other caliber of long guns) is dilated? Thanks in advance. Hector

Dilated? Being a gunocologyst, I would think two to three fingers should do it. To check and measure an out of whack chamber you would/could use Cerrosafe, standard micrometer, dial calipers, inside caliper, telescopic bore gauge, or headspace gauge. Depends on what dilation you are checking for. _______________________________________________________________________________ This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine. Hello Hector. Are you checking for an expanded or over size (diamter too large) chamber? There are several ways to measure it. 1. Best way is with a dial bore gauge that you might find in an auto engine overhaul shop or machine shop. 2, Use a small hole gauge. You may have to practice to learn how to get it out if the chamber is badly expanded. Once you get it out you meansure it with a micrometer. 3. Use a telescoping gauge if you can get one small enough. 4. Dental impression material comes with a 2 part RTV resin in a gun applicator. After it sets up you can pull it out because it is elastic. Then you carefully measure it.

Thanks to all. Westpac: now I know the diference between "dilated" (the word in use in my country for this situation) and "expanded". I do not forget. I'm sorry for my bud English. Regards. Hector
