I was going to bid on some machines I used to run. Got as far as signing and faxing the confidentiality agreement. They told me I still had to wire $200k deposit even to bid on small stuff. I thought that was a little excessive for less than $10k in machines.

I have been to a dozen metalworking auctions.

I have never heard of money up front to bid.

One of the mills at the Boeing Aerospace auction in Kent was the size of a tennis court. I didn't bid on that.
