Help me! I don't do much gunsmithing but I'm pretty handy.

I put an aftermarket fing pin and shrooud assembly on my m700 vs to get rid of the j lock. The shroud was glossy so I took things apart to try and swap parts to use the original j lock shroud but deactivate the lock. After looking at the original Remington firing pin, I noticed that the indentation the j lock shaft rotates into is only on one side (the top). It dawned on me that turning the firing pin 180 degrees would not allow the jlock shaft to engage. I turned the pin and, sure enough, the j lock will not engage. The firing pin seems to protrude from the bolt face normally upon trigger release and the trigger works fine. Haven't fired it with live ammo though.

Will this work to deactivate the j lock?

Old original post l know, though l am also curious as to the concept, having come across a remmy with misfiring issues.
The main spring has been changed and a different trigger added, which for a while worked, but the rifle has reverted to type and is again misfiring.
l simply wonder if there is an issue with the J-Lock impeding the firing pin in some manner.
Can it be removed from the shroud (hole filled with grub screw possibly) the firing pin rotated as per original thread, or must a new assembly be sourced from somewhere.

ISS/JLock firing pin assy parts are not interchangeable w/ standard firing pin Assy's.

The ONLY part that is interchangeable between the 2 Assy's is the 3/32" diameter x 7/16" long cross pin that pins the cocking/striker piece to the firing pin shank.

Hello Dan.

Well, it was a cluster f..k A conglomeration of issues that added up to a right headache!!

ln the end we swapped out the pin ass' for a Gre-Tan unit as the J-Lock had come slack and was galling it's recess on the firing pin which resulted in the light striking The Timney trigger he'd fitted had never been lubricated was full of dirt and so was having severe "personal issues" so l chucked it as well, and fitted an old Remmy unit all tidied and retuned.
Then we found that the Hornady factory ammo'(.223rem' V-Max) was defective. Most of the primers had been seated down too hard, so crushing the primer compound capsule, with one primer totally refusing to fire.

So in the end it's fettled and working just fine again, that, and the lad's been told not to forget routine maintenance or it's a flee in his ear'ole next time!

Kindest regards.

Ratty.
