Some low life broke into my camp and stole my sons rifles. Two of them were just stock guns. One was a custom 30/06 I put together for him.(a graduation gift) I need a replacement cost for it. I can add up the cost of the parts but not being a pro gunsmith I am not sure the insurance co will go for it? (not sure they will be happy with the info being from his father) Any good ideas? I know the cost of a custom depends alot on the rep of the smith. Thanks Dean

Why not go to the smith who originally built it to get the estimate of what a replacement would cost today?

and the grade of wood in the stock and the maker of the barrel blank and the type of sights installed and any engraving and the coverage of checkering and the type of scope installed and the type of finish (rust blued?) and the and the etc Unless you have a photo and possibly a rider on your insurance policy covering such items you're likely going to be reimbursed as though you owned a $400 gun! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I would tend to agree with VapoDog ; Look for a NICE 30/06 retail as a replacement value and " PRAY " !. Insurance company's are like ? , well Dimwitted Municipalities types who figure a Standard price should be a buy back programs going rate . Wood is wood an action and barrel , what are you saying ? What kind of action are we talking sir ? , are you engaged in any illegal activity !. Your policy doesn't cover , YOU get the drift !.

Insurance companies think differently than anyone else. Unless you have documentation showing what it is worth, they will only give you what the average value of a 30-06 is worth. I know several people that have gone through the very same thing. That is why it is important to keep receipts on everything of value.

I hope your insurance company will cover any of it. I haven't checked lately but many companies top things like firearms at $1000/per occurence unless you have a specific rider for them. BTW if you're a member of the NRA you have some insurance as well. Assuming it's covered anyway, as far as the custom rifle goes, mostly it will depend on your agent and adjuster. I'd try to find something similar on gunbroker or a similar custom rifle. Keep in mind, if you're reasonable, they might look kindly on your claim, if you claim that it was worth $10,000 then you're not going to get very far in my experience. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere. NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR. I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.
