I don't 'spose anyone on here has the actual email address for Weaver mounts tech help service. I've tried to fill out their online request form but it just keeps asking me for a valid zip code, not so easy when I'm not resident in the USA. Maybe I'm just not getting the hint but I figure if its good enough to sell their mounts & rings all around the world then its good enough to answer questions from customers from all around the world too.

just go buy a set of warnes if you like that style of mounting setup, if thats too heavy at least use the warne bases, they have the cross slot all the way across, not just at the ends like weaver does

in times when one needs a rifle, he tends to need it very badly.....PHC

I likely would if I knew the correct mounts for my application, a BSA modded P14 303, its similar to either a Rem 700 or Win 70 rear receiver bridge profile & I thought if sent Weavers tech help some measurements they'd tell me what I needed in a flash,however... you know the rest of the story. I've posted on the Canadian & Aus/NZ hunting forums hoping for a answer as these things are relatively common in the colonies but to no avail, thus my post on this forum. HELP Wink

The help form mentions that Weaver will answer via email…so lets pretend for a few days that you moved to:

City = Hopkinsville
State = Kentucky
Zip = 42240

Plug that in (still using your correct email address) and lets see what happens
Cool

If you know the distance between holes, the diameter of the curve it fits on, and the thickness of the mount, then the Weaver # can be found.

There is a chart in MacFarland's book, "Introduction to modern Gunsmithing".

MacFarland's book was written back when drawing were made with ink pens. But his book is very well written and almost timeless, if it weren't for the Weaver mount #s that have been added since.

It is also possible to change the radius on the bottom, make a mount thinner, and move the hole and countersink. So if you want to customize a Weaver mount, putting it in a pair of V blocks and cutting off the bottom with a fly cutter will change the thickness and the radius ala Steve Acker. With end mills the size of the clearance hole and one the size of the countersink, the holes can be made oblong or new holes made. Blank Weaver rails are available for $10 or $20/ foot in anodized Aluminum.

Acker is an engineer by day, and a first class gunsmith author by night. The book is not just technically great, but every photo and every word exudes the very best quality.

Thanks gentlemen, a brilliant response, Guncat have tried the form thing, seemed to work OK, I'll have to wait & see now though having subsequently got the list from imhance, I think I've worked it out to nos 35 & 36 which are Rem 700 mounts so shouldn't be too hard to come by.tnekkcc, thanks for the book recommendations, a couple I will have to track down by the look of it, the link will make one of them easy. Cheers all.
Steve.

I would but I have a hell of a time working out time zones & besides, its hardly a local call from where I am, & I don't think they'll accept a reverse charge call. Big Grin

Do a search on midways site for enfield scope mounts, it list the common ones meaning rear bridge contoured like rem700, rem30, and win70. The front shoud be #11 I don't know the rear offhand.
