I have an old 700 apart and the cocking piece is frozen on the firing pin. Want to change the spring..Don't really want to heat it and alter the hardness of the cocking piece.. Any advice on how to break it loose... Yeah, I've already drifted the cross pin out... Thanks, Pat

Clamp the firing pin in soft or padded vise jaws. The wrap a piece of soft aluminum or brass strip around the cocking piece and twist it. It should release when you break the burrs surrounding the cross pin hole.

Thanks, EDG... I'll give it a twist in the morning.. Should have thought of that anyway, geezing it, I guess. I'm in Tx too also, mid coast, about 50 miles inland

This is more common than you think. If you cant twist it loose you may have to tap it off with a brass or lead hammer. In either case don't be standing in line with it when it lets go. Or don't have it pointing at a window or your wife's favorite cat.

Man, I whipped on it something fierce with a plastic mallet! Wouldn't budge... Tough nut to crack !!!! The cat can fend for itself ........
