I have never used Talleys before but am getting ready to mount a Leupold 4 x 12ao w/ German # 4 crosshairs on a Mark X Mauser that has just been bedded into an OD green Rimrock. I'm pleased with how the rifle turned out and the icing will be a properly mounted scope. The mounts have been mounted by my Smith, I just need help mounting the scope in the rings.

Does anyone have instructions(sequence) for mounting a scope in Talley Mounts?

StikR,

What Chuck said.

If they are QD's make sure the screw that attaches the moving dovetail to the base is fully out (this is critical) , then tighten the 2 screws in the bottom of the rings really really tight, then mount the rings with scope attached onto the bases, adjust for eye relief & cant, then finalise by securing the 2 top screws in the rings.

You may need to use a screwdriver & just pry the tops of the rings apart gently to rotate or move the scope. The rings are so precisely made its a very tight fit.

The reason to remove the screw (the big screw whether you use levers or not)that attches the rings to the base fully is that if you don't you may strip or bend a thread in the base & you will not be able to tighten adequately. Each half of the base is threaded not just the last half that the screw threads into. If it is partly into the other half of the base & you tighten the bottom ring screws, you squash some of the threads as they are not in sync. Hard to explain but if you have screwed up like me you know all about it.

Ring em & they will fax you an instruction sheet. Great gunsmiths lousy communicators. I think they expect us lay people to know how to do it from birth.

Regards
John
