I just bought another 1917 win., for building into something later. the extractor didn't look quite right to me and I asked and was told that somebody had put a springfield extractor on it. What would the purpose be in doing that? I am thinking I will put the right extractor back on it, is there any reason to stay with the Springfield model?

1917 extractor is about an inch longer than a Springfield expractor.

t_bob38 is right. I just got out a Springfield 03 and a 17 Enfield extractor and the Spfld is 7/8" shorter. Maybe the fellow had dirty bifocals when he did this and didn't notice

That is how I noticed it, the length was a fast give away. I don't know if there is a reason for replacing the original with the springfield, if the guy was just on crack, or if he didn't have access to an original extractor. I am going to replace it none the less.
