My old Sako was built in the 50's and is what they called the[vixon]and was chambered in .222 or .222 mag, mine was .222. They had a long spring steal extractor and I was told that no one has them anymore. That makes my gun a singleshot with a ramrod. Does anyone have any ideas on how I fix this, I'm desprite.

Thanks for your help

Start looking for the Mark X mini- mauser extractors. They're the same but are almost as rare as Sakos.

Expect to pay $20 or so.

Jim Lutes of Whitewater, Kansas has one of the largest supplies of Sako parts. Give him a try. If he doesn't have it, you'll have to have one made or adapted.

Slydog,

If the extractor is only slightly bent...i.e. extractor claw not grabbing the case rim, it can probably be repaired.

Give me a shout at kevinroyal@aol.com

Slydog:

Have a qualified 'smith weld up the old extractor cut [he will need to use heat sinks and be careful about heat warpage and loss of heat treat on the bolt]. Clean up the weld area on a lathe [i.e., fill in old extractor slot with weld and then machine to same dia. as bolt]. Then have the 'smith machine bolt to receive a newer style Sako extractor. I've had this done and it worked great. The important thing is the welding has to be done with care and patience so you don't warp the bolt or lose heat treat. If it is done right, you wil be virtually unable to see the modification with the naked eye.
