I've been thinking of getting a C&R license but have a few questions. I sure don't want to get in trouble with BATF. If I buy eligible Mauser rifles or actions with the license can I later use those actions to build custom rifles. I would like to take some gunsmithing training and would like to have some stuff to work on. Also can I later resell those custom rifles? I'm not looking to make this a business just want to learn some gunsmitthing skils and perhaps build a custom rifle. Thanks.

If you are buying just the action I don't think any licence is needed. I think the purpose for the C&R licence is for collecting. If you get beyond this you enter a gray area. To my knowledge is that in order for a fire arm to remain C&R egliable it must be kept in orginal trim. Now if you bought the gun and made a custom out of this I don't know how this would affect your bound book that must be kept, needless to say I think this would be the gray area that I spoke of. I don't think it would be a big deal If you did one or two rifles and kept them for yourself but making customs just to sell I think would be a big no-no

You don't want a CnR... you might save 25 bucks an action, but the cnr will cost you 30.. and then if you modifiy it, it's not a cnr gun. It's just not worth the hassle

email me off list and we can talk about it.

Jeffe has it right for what you are talking about. I have a C&R but I buy 4-5 C&R guns a year so the savings is substantial for me.

I have a C&R so listen up. You need a full fledged FFL to buy actions through the mail. The C&R is intended for collectors only. You are not allowed to buy guns with the license for the purpose of modifying, customizing or sporterizing those guns. The C&R is not a lisence to buy and sell guns to the "public". It is what it is. A collector of curios and relics.
