Ruger M77 MK-II's triggers are not adjustable. There are a couple of brands of after market triggers, one of them from "Timney."

Also, there are instructions for gun smiths in the Internet. The detailed instructions have pictures with the exact dimensions for filing and polishing. Be aware that the instructions below are intended for gun smiths to use ONLY :

Get yourself a Timney - it is adjustable for weight of pull, sear engagement and overtravel. I installed one in my 77 Mk II 270 Win, set at hunting weight, I now reliably get 3 shots into almost 1 hole at 100 yards.

I installed a Timney in my Ruger and made no adjustments. Sweet right out of the box. Adjusting the safety takes a little while but is not difficult. VFR

Your friends's lucky. My SS Ruger MkII trigger came in at 7 Lb, 3 Oz. and more take up than a two stage military trigger. Being left handed I didn't have the option of a Timney trigger, but my gunsmith got it down to 3.5 Lbs with just a hint of creep.

The 77MKII trigger is tunable but only by either installing adjustments or by the cut and try method. Both methods are best used by those familiar with trigger work. Regards, Bill.
